Even though HARP was crippled by both storms, we quickly mobilized and distributed 40,994 pounds of horse-feed, 131 bales of hay, over 9,000 pounds of dog and cat food,
West Nile/Tetanus vaccines, corn, salt-blocks, water and first-aid supplies to over 1,000
animals in Louisiana's Florida Parishes, River Parishes and Southwest Louisiana and South Mississippi after
devastating hurricanes Rita and Katrina.
Networking with veterinarians, HARP reached jobless owners and caretakers with
destroyed hay-barns, feed plots, barns and pastures. HARP also assisted animal rescue organizations in hard-hit areas.
A substantial grant from the ASPCA, donations from private individuals,
businesses, feed companies and other non-profits helped make this possible. HARP appreciates the generosity
of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, Nutrena Feeds and Ft. Dodge Animal Health Products.
